中国英语学习者朗读口语的边界调模式研究

摘要：

边界调作为音高曲拱的边界变化指征在英语语调体系中占有重要地位。本研究以Pierre-humbert(1980)的"自主音系-节律"理论为依据,以英国剑桥大学IViE语料库中10名伦敦地区本族语者的边界调为参照标准,使用Praat软件对38名中国英语学习者的英语朗读口语进行分析。研究结果发现,除简短的祈使句外,学习者在朗读其他六种句型的句末边界调时均与本族语者存在显著性差异,而对句首边界调的把握情况相对较好。本研究还发现,汉语对学习者的影响、学习者语调知识的缺乏以及对上下文语境的理解不足是导致学习者与本族语者在边界调模式的选择上存在差异的主要原因。

Abstract:

Boundary tone,the marker of pitch contour boundary variation,plays an important role in English intonational system.With Pierrehumbert's Autosegmental-Metrical (AM) theory (1980) as theoretical framework,the present study compared boundary tone patterns in the native speakers' and the Chinese EFL learners' read speech.38 Chinese EFL learners' recording materials were chosen and coded with IViE prosodic transcribing system and the recorded speech data were annotated on the computer with PRAAT.Ten native speakers' speech data (all London dialects) were extracted from the Cambridge IViE corpus.The findings show that all final boundary tones produced by Chinese EFL learners in all sentence patterns except short imperatives differed significantly from those produced by native speakers.Chinese influence on EFL learners,lack of intonation knowledge and context understanding are considered to be the main reasons for the differences in native speakers' and Chinese EFL learners' boundary tone patterns.
