词汇量、词汇深度知识与语言综合能力关系研究

摘要: 本文从词汇质和量的角度,亦即词汇知识的深度和广度,探索词汇对预测二语水平的重要性。结果表明:词汇广度、深度知识均能有效预测语言综合能力,其中词汇深度知识对语言综合能力的预测力强于词汇广度知识,这一优势尤其体现在对完形填空及写作的预测中;总体上,词汇广度与深度知识呈高度正相关,但词汇深度知识的发展仍落后于词汇广度知识。

Abstract: This study investigates the extent to which breadth and depth of vocabulary knowledge are related to second language proficiency levels, and to investigate the relationship between breadth and depth of vocabulary knowledge.168 second year non-English majors were recruited for these purposes. Findings show that both breadth and depth of vocabulary knowledge are effective predictors of second language proficiency levels; depth of vocabulary knowledge makes a unique contribution to the prediction of second language proficiency, over and above the prediction afforded by breadth of vocabulary knowledge; the contribution of depth of vocabulary knowledge is more obvious to the prediction of the use of English and writing; and depth and breadth dimensions of vocabulary knowledge are highly, and positively, correlated, but the development of depth of vocabulary knowledge still falls behind that of breadth of vocabulary knowledge .
